First Grade Teachers

The first-grade team at Wasatch Elementary is made up of three incredible educators who bring energy, creativity, and heart to everything they do. Ms. Lorenzo, Ms. Bosgieter, and Ms. Camp are passionate about helping young learners grow, and their classrooms are filled with curiosity, laughter, and a love for learning. This year, first graders will build strong foundations in language arts by learning how to express their ideas clearly, listen actively, and use language and visuals to communicate effectively. They’ll explore a wide range of literature and informational texts, developing the skills to read and comprehend complex material with support when needed. In writing, students will learn to craft pieces for different purposes and audiences, using proper grammar, structure, and style.

In math, students will deepen their understanding of addition, subtraction, place value, and measurement, while also exploring shapes and their attributes. They'll learn to solve problems, think critically, and apply mathematical concepts in real-world situations. Science will take them on exciting explorations of the seasons, space patterns, living things and their needs, and the fascinating properties of light and sound. Through hands-on investigations, students will begin to think like scientists and engineers, asking questions and designing solutions.

Social studies will help students understand the world around them through geography, history, civics, and economics. They’ll learn how to read maps, explore important historical events and figures, and understand their roles and responsibilities in their communities. In healthy lifestyles, students will discover the importance of physical activity, nutrition, and emotional well-being, while developing motor skills and learning how to move safely and effectively. The fine arts program will give students opportunities to express themselves through music, visual art, dance, and drama, exploring creativity in many forms. In technology and computer science, students will begin to understand how computers work, how to stay safe online, and how to use technology to solve problems and share ideas. They’ll also begin learning keyboarding skills and explore how computing impacts the world around them.

Throughout the year, students will explore a variety of engaging topics, including fables and stories, the human body, tales from different cultures, early civilizations, astronomy, the history of the Earth, animals and their habitats, fairy tales, American independence, and frontier explorers. These units are designed to spark curiosity and help students make meaningful connections across subjects.

Wasatch first-graders are in for a truly special year with Ms. Lorenzo, Ms. Bosgieter, and Ms. Camp leading the way. Each of these teachers brings something unique to the classroom, and together they create an environment where students feel seen, supported, and excited to learn. With their guidance, first grade becomes more than just a school year—it becomes a memorable journey filled with growth, discovery, and joy.
