students at day of service

In partnership with JustServe.org, Viewmont High School hosted youth and community members in April during a Global Youth Service Day.

Hundreds of students came together to help with projects for the Bountiful Food Pantry, Teen Centers in Davis School District, and the Magic Yarn Project. They achieved the following:

1) 7,400 Pantry Packs given to school children to supplement their food availability
2) 1,800 Grab & Go Packs for the Davis Foundation Teen Centers
3) 1,000 Dental Kits for the Teen Centers
4) 500 Feminine Hygiene Kits for the Teen Centers
5) 500 Skin Care Kits for the Teen Centers
6) 575 Sweatshirts/Hoodies were purchased and donated by the youth who came to serve.
7) 375 Men's Deodorant sticks (full-size) were purchased ($1,000 worth) and donated to the Teen Centers which were in urgent need of deodorant throughout the Davis Teen Centers.
8) 40 Magic Yarn Project boards constructed and used for this event and donated to the Magic Yarn Project for future use.
9) 1,000 Skeins of yarn were purchased, 554 of which were measured, cut and bagged for the Magic Yarn Project which makes superhero/Disney princess wigs made of yarn for children diagnosed with cancer and suffering from hair loss.  The remaining 446 skeins will be measured, cut and bagged over the next month by various youth groups.

A special thanks to our VHS student officers and impact team for their help in bringing this project together.
