1st grade students in Van Orman's class building traps to try to catch leprechauns

There was a buzz of excitement (and just a sprinkle of mischief) in the first grade classrooms this week as students put their creativity to the test building clever leprechaun traps!

Using everything from shoeboxes and string to glitter, rainbows, and a whole lot of imagination, students designed their traps with one goal in mind: catch a sneaky leprechaun before it could dash away with its pot of gold.

When students returned from lunch, they rushed in with wide eyes and hopeful hearts… but guess what? Not a single leprechaun was caught!

However, something very mysterious had happened.

Every single trap had been set off! Lids were tipped, strings were pulled, and glitter trails hinted that a quick and clever visitor had stopped by during the night. And while the leprechauns managed to escape once again, they didn’t leave empty-handed—or empty-trapped!

Inside each trap, students discovered a magical surprise: shiny chocolate gold coins left behind as a thank-you (or perhaps a playful apology!) from their elusive guests.

Giggles and gasps filled the room as students imagined the tiny footsteps, quick escapes, and maybe even a few leprechaun chuckles echoing through the classroom overnight.

While the leprechauns remain on the loose, one thing is certain—first grade is full of imaginative thinkers, clever engineers, and just the right amount of magic. 🍀✨
